By Mark HosenballPublished Apr 01, 2019 08:54:49By Mark HoseoIt was the first day of spring and the morning sun was shining through the thicket of trees.
A taxi driver from the city’s suburbs came to the door, saying his client was looking for a ride.
He needed a ride to the airport, where his parents were going to be, he said.
The taxi driver, an experienced driver who had just finished his first season with the KK Taxi and Limousine Services company, was eager to get on his bike.
A young woman sitting beside him, a taxi driver herself, wanted to see her son, who was in his early 20s.
She also wanted to make sure he was safe.
The two of them drove to a corner of a busy street, parked in the middle of the intersection.
The driver leaned out of the cab and pointed to the tree beside his pickup truck.
“You want a ride?” he asked.
The woman said yes.
“Oh, you don’t need a ride,” the driver replied.
“Just a ride.”
“Thank you,” the woman said.
The driver then picked up the woman and drove off.
The incident came to light when an Uber driver called the driver to complain that he was late.
Uber has launched an investigation into the incident.
“The Uber driver did not act in a reasonable manner and we will hold him accountable for his actions,” said Uber spokesperson Jordan Smith.
“It is unfortunate that someone would choose to engage in this type of behavior on our platform.
It’s unacceptable that people would intentionally jeopardize someone’s safety by using our platform.”
