In the past, many of us have found it hard to get a delivery driver to deliver our orders.
We are, after all, driving on the road, not in a taxi.
But that’s changing.
A new study by the Australian Government’s National Delivery Drivers Association (NDDA) has found that a growing number of Australians are finding it easier to find a delivery van than ever before.
The survey of over 20,000 Australian drivers found that the percentage of Australians who have a driver who can deliver their order is rising, while the percentage who say they can’t is falling.
NDDA CEO Greg Murray said the results show Australians are looking for alternatives to relying on taxis and that delivery is an alternative that can be easily implemented.
“There are drivers out there who can do deliveries.
We just need to be willing to accept them as a part of the service that we provide,” he said.
“If we can create a situation where drivers can be a part, it can be the way that we get more Australians into the delivery game.”
A lot of drivers said they’ve used delivery vans before.
One driver in the NDDA survey said he had been using a delivery service for two years before starting his own company.
“I started using it about a year ago and have been using it ever since,” he told NDDA.
“People don’t really know what it’s like to be a delivery person.”
Driver says he’s happy with his role driver said he found his job in the taxi industry stressful.
“The drivers are the ones that are really stressed, that get up at 4am and go to work every morning and go through this whole process of having to pick up and deliver your orders,” he explained.
“They can be really demanding.
They can be extremely emotional.
It can be stressful for them.
They need a good time to do that and that’s a bit of an issue for me.”
The NDDA says there are many other benefits to being a delivery agent, including: fewer car crashes The NDAA says that many drivers found themselves in a situation that they felt like they couldn’t let go of.
“As a delivery company, we are able to provide a great service to our drivers who need to deliver,” Murray said.
He said he was happy to see more drivers opting to work for a delivery agency.
“We are working with some of the best drivers in the country, and we are seeing a huge increase in the number of people signing up for this opportunity,” he added.
Drivers say they need the safety net of a taxi driver’s contract and a paid vacation to ensure they are happy with their roles.
“That’s the reason why I’m so happy that the NDCA has chosen to partner with them, because they are giving me the chance to get paid a paid holiday,” driver told NDAA.
“Because of this, I’m not going to have to do all of the other work that a taxi cab driver has to do,” he continued.
The NDCA is working with the industry to provide drivers with a “safety net”, which includes a $10,000 cash payment each year for a full year’s service.
Drivers also receive a 30 per cent pay increase each year, which is designed to allow them to make ends meet.
In 2017, the NDTA reported that around 50 per cent of its drivers were unemployed, with some finding themselves living on $5 or $6 an hour.
The National Delivery Workers Association says that if more drivers are choosing delivery, the numbers will only increase.
