India’s national carrier UPS India on Thursday said it is moving into Goa and Bengaluru in a bid to be India’s biggest delivery service provider.
The move will see UPS India take over delivery of the major Indian airlines such as Air India and SpiceJet.
UPS said it would provide global express delivery of goods, and the move will be accompanied by a move towards a more sustainable business model.
The Indian Express will be the backbone of the service, it said.
The new company will have its headquarters in Mumbai and have the ability to offer services in many locations.
UPS is also looking to expand its presence in the Middle East and Africa, and expand the number of routes it operates through its new business unit, it added.
“The new UPS India will provide more flexibility to our team in the field of delivering services, which is the reason for moving to the Indian market,” said Anurag Jain, chief operating officer of UPS India.
The company will also invest more in its supply chain to ensure quality products at competitive prices, he added.
UPS India said it had invested in new technology to boost its delivery capabilities and scale its operations, which will allow it to provide a “better service for our customers”.
It will be launching two new routes this year to cater to global and regional markets.
The two new flights, to India and Dubai, will run between March and June, and will operate at a speed of 20 knots.
