The Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday announced it will settle a class action lawsuit alleging Google and Amazon failed to offer fair and reasonable competition in the delivery of goods and services.
The FTC says it will pay out $1.3 billion in damages to settle the antitrust claims filed against the tech giants.
In addition to paying the $1 billion, the companies will also commit to paying $500 million to settle claims that they violated the Sherman Antitrust Act, the FTC says.
The settlements, which are subject to approval by the Justice Department, were announced in an announcement by FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz and acting FTC Director Robert Leavitt.
